About Us
Why UncleMeal exists, and who it's for.
Lived firsthand
The same ritual, every week. Saturdays, right before the shop, we'd sit down: a meal plan for five people. A handwritten calendar, and the quiet hope that everyone would agree today.
Spoiler: usually only two out of three kids were happy. One wasn't. And someone had, once again, agreed to a meal they weren't remotely excited about. Classic family compromise.
"Who's doing the plan this time?" Silence. No reaction.
The excitement was actually there. Kids asking "what's for dinner next Wednesday?" because they can barely wait for a favorite meal. That energy just had nothing to do with the planning itself. The planning felt more like an obligation.
And then the shopping list. Handwritten, items crossed out, quantities guessed. "The usual cheese." "Enough for the pasta dish." Phrases that made sense at home and suddenly meant nothing in the supermarket. Things bought twice, things forgotten, impulse buys nobody had asked for. And the nagging thought that last week's groceries were going bad in the fridge.
A midlife crisis? No. But at some point you'd stand in the supermarket, list in hand, thinking: this can't be it.
The idea
I looked at what was out there. Recipe apps for inspiration. Shopping-list apps for individual items. Meal-plan apps that were either too simple or too complex. None of them thought in households: in real groups who have to agree, shop in a coordinated way, and eat together.
The gap wasn't a missing feature. It was the missing bigger picture.
So I built what we were missing: a recipe collection that grows with the family. A meal planner for the whole household, a shopping list that builds itself from the plan, with real quantities, sensible categories, and nothing left to interpret at the supermarket.
I chose the name UncleMeal because it shouldn't feel like a dry piece of software. More like an experienced family member in the kitchen: practical, warm, and someone who calmly points out that you don't need to buy more cereal. There are still three boxes at home.
We've used UncleMeal ourselves since October 2025. The data is ours: real meals, real weeks, real savings. That mattered to us. A hobby idea turned into something that solved far more than one problem. Much more variety, much more inspiration, every recipe in one place. We use cook mode every day. It changed how our days actually run.
The mission
UncleMeal is for everyone who likes to cook and wants to eat well, while getting the tedious parts done with ease. Plan, agree, shop, cook. Week after week.
What we want to give back isn't a feature list. It's the Saturday morning that doesn't cost an hour of negotiation. The shopping trip where the list simply makes sense.
Less waste. More calm at the table, and time to look forward to the food.
